Symptoms of Empathy

Here are some symptoms of empathy that I've found from different places on the web. Hope it helps a little. ^_^

Some Symptoms of Empathy:

1. Acute senses – i.e. sense of smell, taste, sight, touch, hearing etc.
2. Acute awareness of the feelings of those around them and feeling deeply for those in pain or suffering
3. Often easily hurt
4. Avoidance of conflict where possible preferring to keep things harmonious
5. Easily startled by noise
6. Easily moved to tears because of deep feeling
7. Nervous in crowded situations
8. People feel safe around them and able to talk to them easily. Even complete strangers will talk to them about personal things without consciously intending to do so
9. Animals and children love and are attracted to them
10. Easily affected by the weather
11. Their greatest gift is to perceive with the heart
12. They are usually a blessing to be around as they are nurturing and caring
13. Music and harmony are very important to them. They can lose themselves completely while listening to music that resonates with them.

Here are some other symptoms, which do not get as much notice as the ones above:

14. Emotional Dissociation
15. Anger
16. Anxiety
17. Sleep Disturbances and/or Insomnia
18. Nightmares
19. Feelings of Powerlessness
20. Nausea
21. Headaches
22. Body Temperature Changes
23. Dizziness
24. Fainting Spells
25. General Constriction
26. Constipation
27. Impaired hearing and vision
28. Feelings of fatigue or lethargy.
29. Feelings of hyperactivity

  1. wow, this is really weird. I have like almost all of those symptoms, and really, really hate going out shopping or to the mall, or places with large crowds, but never really thought about it before. It might also explain why every cat or dog in the neighbourhood seems to find it`s way to me.

  2. wow as an empathic teenager i find comfort knowing someone knows it's not my falt for being how i am and this list has helped me understand things alittle clearer thank you

  3. these symptoms do not soothe my thought or really fufill what i am looking for. these lists are too general for me to compute who or what is empathic. slightly helpful none the less. thank you for that.
